Ryan Gosling Developing Jeff Lemire’s ‘The Underwater Welder’ as Film

Its been announced that recent Oscar nominated actor Ryan Gosling (La La Land, The Nice Guys), Ken Kao’s Waypoint and Anonymous Content are producing as adaptation of the best-selling graphic novel The Underwater Welder from Award Winning cartoonist Jeff Lemire. Gosling’s previous producing credits include his directorial debut Lost River, Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives.

The graphic novel was first released in 2012, published by Top Shelf/IDW. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao and Anonymous Content will produce the film.

The Underwater Welder tells the story of oil-rig worker Jack Joseph, whose job is to repair the rig when damaged. On one particular dive, Jack comes face to face with a supernatural presence that ends up being the ghost of his own father. The encounter takes him through a barrage of memories and an unpredictable journey that could be compared to something out of Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone.

Jeff Lemire, Chris Staros (Editor–in–Chief, Top Shelf) and Ted Adams (CEO and Publisher, IDW Publishing) are attached as executive producers.
