Andy Rubin, creator of Android, would prepare to launch a smartphone

Two and a half years after his departure from Google, Andy Rubin, inventor of Android, would prepare to unveil his own smartphone.

It’s on Twitter that Andy Rubin chose to wink at his fans. The computer scientist posted a picture of a hand holding a smartphone with a large screen. The image is accompanied by two sentences: ”  I’m really excited to see how it all takes shape. Impatient to put it in the hands of more people  “. The message is deliberately evasive, but this is finally a confirmation from Andy Rubin regarding the development of his own smartphone, information that until now was only a rumor.

Andy Rubin smartphone

Little information is known about Andy Rubin’s firm. It would be called Essential Products Inc. and, according to people close to the file, it would develop both the hardware and software parts for a high-end smartphone. Artificial intelligence would also play an important role in this device.

The details on Essential came out in a January report from Bloomberg. The report said Rubin is currently building a consumer hardware company, starting with a “40-person team, filled with recruits from Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google.” The company is still in stealth mode, but when it goes public, Rubin will be announced as the CEO, according to the report.

Bloomberg described Rubin’s company as “A platform company designed to tie multiple devices together,” and in addition to a smart home product, “the centrepiece of the system is a high-end smartphone with a large edge-to-edge screen that lacks a surrounding bezel.” The phone part certainly seems spot on after this picture. The report claimed the device would leverage “artificial intelligence” somehow, and said it would come with a magnetic modular connector.

A Xiaomi Mi Mix for the whole world?

It is also a device that does not have loudspeakers as we know them: in Xiaomi Mi Mix, the loudspeaker is “piezo” (piezoelectric), placed under the screen. Operating on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip, Is a high-speed smartphone with a long battery life compared to other modern smartphones.
